1. What we collect
Nothing. vocpal has no accounts and no servers, and uses no analytics or crash-reporting tools. We can’t see your recordings or transcripts, or how you use vocpal.
2. Where recordings and transcripts are stored
Recording starts on your Apple Watch. The audio goes to your own iPhone, where Apple’s on-device speech recognition turns it into text. Audio is never uploaded.
vocpal’s recordings and transcripts are excluded from iCloud Backup, so they can’t be restored on a new or replacement iPhone.
You can turn on App Lock to protect vocpal with Face ID, Touch ID or your passcode.
3. AI features (optional)
AI features only work after you enter your own API key in Settings. Once you do, vocpal sends transcript text from your iPhone directly to the provider you chose, to create scene summaries, Todo candidates and the daily review. Along with each scene it sends the date and time, the title and attendee names of calendar meetings, and the moments you highlighted. When you ask a question in Chat, it sends the passages related to your question; when you ask about a particular day, it sends that day’s transcript.
Audio is never sent. This data doesn’t pass through us, and we never receive it. How your provider handles the text is governed by its own privacy policy.
4. Apple Health, Calendar and location
With your permission, vocpal reads mood, sleep and heart rate from Apple Health, activity such as walking from your iPhone’s motion data, and your calendar and visited places, on your device, to organize your day.
Health, location and mood are not sent to AI unless you turn on the matching setting. Even then, health data is sent only as simple labels (such as “heart rate 72–96 bpm”), and places only by name, never coordinates. Calendar meeting titles and attendees are sent with scenes (see section 3).
5. Beta metrics and diagnostics
During the beta, vocpal keeps content-free counts and durations on your device, such as battery and transfer statistics, and never sends them automatically. We only see them if you export them from Settings › About › Beta Metrics and send them to us yourself.
6. Deleting your data
In the beta, you can delete the following in the app:
- Audio: in Settings › Audio & Storage, choose how long to keep audio. Older audio is cleaned up automatically, while transcripts and other text stay, and highlight clips are always kept. You can also delete all stored audio at once.
- Individual items in Todo, and conversations in Chat History.
- Your API key: in Settings › AI Settings, tap Delete AI Settings to remove the key stored on this iPhone.
Deleting whole recordings, including their transcripts, is coming in a later version. Until then, to delete all of your data, delete vocpal from your iPhone; its recordings, transcripts and other data on the iPhone are deleted with it. Recordings on your watch that haven’t reached your iPhone yet are deleted when you delete vocpal from your watch.
Some data lives outside vocpal and has to be deleted where it is:
- Items you sent to Reminders or Calendar.
- Moods you logged to Apple Health through vocpal.
- Text already sent to your AI provider, which is handled under that provider’s policy.
Your API key is stored in the iPhone keychain and may stay on the device after you delete the app. We recommend deleting it in AI Settings first.
7. Children
vocpal is a tool for adults and is not directed at children. We don’t collect anyone’s data, including children’s. If you record your child’s voice, those recordings stay on your own devices, like the rest of your recordings.
8. Changes to this policy
When this policy changes, we’ll update the date at the top of this page and describe the changes in this section. If a change affects where your data goes, such as a new kind of content sent to AI, we’ll also say so in the app’s release notes.
